১. ওজন কমাতে
প্রাকৃতিক ফাইবার থেকে জন্ম নেয় মেথি। এগুলো চিবিয়ে গিলে খাওয়া যায় এবং পাকস্থলীর ফাঁকা স্থান এরা পূর্ণ করে। এতে ওজন কমানোর বৈশিষ্ট্য বিদ্যমান। খুব বেশি নয়, সপ্তাহে দুই থেকে তিন দিন সামান্য মেথি চিবিয়ে খান। এতেই স্পষ্ট বুঝবেন উপকার পাচ্ছেন। স্থূলতা কমাতে প্রতিদিন সকালে মেথি ভেজানো পানি পান করতে পারেন। দুটি আলাদা গ্লাসে পানি নিয়ে প্রতিটিতে এক টেবিল চামচ মেথি সারা রাত ভিজিয়ে রাখুন। এই পানি পেটের গ্যাসের সমস্যা দূর করে।
২. জ্বর ও খুসখুসে গলার জন্য
লেবুর রস ও মধু মিশিয়ে এক টেবিল চামচ মেথি চিবিয়ে খেলে জ্বর থেকে মুক্তি মেলে। আবার এতে রয়েছে মুসিলেজ নামের এক ধরনের যৌগ, যা গলার খুসখুসে ভাব দূর করে। নারীদের স্বাস্থ্যগত বিষয়েও এর উপকারিতা রয়েছে। মেথিতে রয়েছে সাইটো-ইস্ট্রোজেন, যা নারীদেহে প্রোলাকটিন নামের হরমোনের মাত্রার বৃদ্ধি ঘটায়। এই হরমোন নারীদেহকে সুগঠিত করে। এ ছাড়া ঋতুকালীন বিভিন্ন সমস্যার সমাধান দেয় মেথি।
৩. চুল পড়া রোধে
স্বাস্থ্যহীন চুলের সৌন্দর্য ফিরিয়ে দেয় মেথি। চুল পড়া রোধে বহুকাল ধরে মেথির কদর চলে আসছে। এটি খেতেও পারেন, বা বেটে মাথায় দিতে পারেন। বিস্ময়কর উপকারিতা মিলবে। মেথি বাটা সারা রাত নারিকেল তেলের মধ্যে চুবিয়ে রেখে সকালে চুলে মাখুন। ঘণ্টাখানেক পর গোসল করে ফেলুন।
৪. হজমে সহায়ক
বুকে বা পেটের ওপরের দিকে এসিডের প্রদাহ থেকে মুক্তি দেয় মেথি। সেই সঙ্গে বদহজমের সমস্যায় ওষুধের মতো কাজ করে। এতে রয়েছে প্রচুর পরিমাণে ফাইবার ও অ্যান্টিঅক্সিডেন্ট। এ সবই দেহের বিষাক্ত উপাদানগুলোকে বের করে দেয়। উপকার পেতে স্রেফ পানিতে মেথি ভিজিয়ে রেখে খেলেই হবে। পানিটাও খেতে ভুলবেন না।
৫. রক্তে গ্লুকোজ ও ডায়াবেটিস নিয়ন্ত্রণে

বিশেষ ধরনের চুলে প্রচুর খুশকির উত্পাত ঘটে। মাথার শুষ্ক ও মৃত ত্বক থেকে খুশকি হয়। গোটা রাত পানিতে মেথি ভিজিয়ে রেখে তা বেটে পেস্ট তৈরি করুন। এতে ইচ্ছে হলে দই মেশাতে পারেন। এরপর এই মিশ্রণ মাথার ত্বকে লাগান। মিনিট তিরিশেক রেখে ধুয়ে ফেলুন। খুশকি চলে যাবে।
৮. সন্তান জন্মদানকে কিছুটা সহজ করতে
জরায়ুর সংকোচন ও প্রসারণের যন্ত্রণা কমাতে মেথির অবদানের কথা বলেন বিশেষজ্ঞরা। তবে অতিরিক্ত খাওয়া হলে গর্ভপাত বা অপরিণত শিশুর জন্মদানের আশঙ্কা দেখা দিতে পারে।
